Farmers are grumbling in Kogi State following endless waiting for loan being promised by the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to support their farming season this year.
Angry farmers said the ministry officials sometimes late last year gave out forms to many farmers by grouping them into Various farming group such as poultry farming, fishing , Cassava production , Rice and soon with a promise that each member of the farming cooperative will be given the sum of #500, 000 to enable them processed and buy seedlings, farming implements and hire labour only to be waiting in vain after several months.
The farmers claimed that they paid # 2000 Naira to officials of the Ministry in the Commercial Agriculture department to acquire the forms .
When the NewsMaker visited the ministry some aggrieved cooperative farmers were seen being percified to drop the idea of going on protest adding that the ministry is ready to dialogue with them over the issue to avoid the matter leaked to the public.
Our investigation revealed that the money had been long ago diverted into personal pockets of senior officials of the ministry who are now using it to run businesses at the expenses of the original people the money was voted for.
The farmers who refused to be percified are now planning to stage a protest in front of governor’s office to attract his attention to fast track sanctions against corrupt ministry officials .
Effort to speak with the ministry permanent Secretary failed as he was said to be busy and can not speak or receive any visitor to his office .
